About Peaceful Morning Farm

Founded in 2005 by farm director John Chang, Peaceful Morning Farm has been taken from a small 0.65 acre plot of land on the north end of Bainbridge Island, WA to one of the main suppliers of the local food bank, Helpline House (501c3). Originally, Peaceful Morning Farm was a CSA delivery service for the local community, providing fresh and organic food to the community. Before long, the farm switched to a nonprofit format, focusing on growing food for those in need.

Now, the main goal and function of the farm is to supply lower-income households in the community with fresh, organic produce which they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford, promoting healthy eating habits for both adults and their children. Deliveries of strawberries, kale, chard, brussels sprouts, corn, raspberries, and more are made to the foodbank several times per week.

Along with the goal of supplying organic produce, Peaceful Morning Farm also works to teach volunteers farming techniques and provide a sense of community among its workers. To many volunteers, Peaceful Morning Farm has been a place where they have met new friends, gained lifelong skills, and walk away from the farm each day having done a great kindness to someone who needs just that.

Looking to the future, John is hoping to cultivate as much of the farm as possible, increase diversity in produce, and hire a full-time manager for the farm and nonprofit.
